The organisers of this competition met at the first CIRCE course which was held in Oxford during the summer of 2006.  Anne, Markus and Patrick were inspired by the positive atmosphere and comradeship of the course and decided to attempt to create a European competition for senior Latin students (aged 16 – 18).

They organised the first CICERO competition last schoolyear. Their aims were to enthuse their students and give them a sense of their shared Classical roots. The competition was held simultaneously in Paris, Berlin and Malvern and the students could see their European counterparts attempting the same questions at the same time through the use of video-conferencing.
