The website Roman Heritage in Aragon is the result of a personal educational project called "The Roman heritage of Aragon in the classroom through new technologies and the Internet," by Dr. Roberto Lérida Lafarga, professor of secondary education Greek specialty, under the supervision of Dr. Pilar Rivero Gracia, Professor, Department of Didactics of Social Sciences Faculty of Education at the University of Zaragoza and member of archeology URBS cities.

The history of the project arose from a number of factors: first, Aragon is an autonomous community with educational skills and educational curricula of its own and needed to adapt the curriculum of subjects such as Latin and Classical Culture to the reality of Aragon; second, the center projects Spanish-English bilingual education in Aragon were evidence of the lack of bilingual educational materials in certain educational materials, thirdly, there was a website so far to study or to report collectively on the archaeological remains Roman Aragon, fourth, educational projects associated with secondary education to university education are still exeptional, in fifth place, the teaching of classical languages is very limited and each school has at most one or two teachers, so that any educational project in these areas is almost something personal, not collective, sixth, new information technologies, constantly evolving, whic require teachers to develop in our educational system and our way of giving classes, so the need for a technologically innovative project, and finally, a project of this nature provides a high degree of transparency, because the material, methodology, content, etc., are open and available to all members of the educational community. Thus the project began as a response to a series of shortcomings in the system in general and in particular the classical languages. Although the site is the product or the core of an educational experience, while a window is open to all interested or curious for knowledge throughout the Roman world in general and its heritage in Aragon in particular.

The project was feasible and possible and was launched by the education authorities of Aragon. Each year, grants are provided to carry out educational projects in order to make educational materials on the Internet and new technologies. Our project was approved by its quality, to meet three essential requirements that describe three basic guidelines of the Department of Education, Government of Aragon: Aragon curriculum, bilingualism and new technologies. Thus, during the year 2007-2008, the author of the project has left his job teaching in secondary school to devote himself entirely to the creation of educational material on the Internet. The supervision and collaboration with educational and research institution of higher level were necessary for approval, but in addition, the project represents an opportunity to make an ethnographic study of education from the student's behavior to these materials, in other words, in a second phase, when the materials are completely finished network, it will work in class with students and explore how students learn with these materials, what is your attitude towards them, how they interact with materials , its degree of autonomy of learning, teaching and learning strategies, etc.

Our project is organised into two main sections: Roman Archaeology of Aragon and the Roman world in general. Thus, in the block archaeological visits, there is a review of Roman archeology of Aragon, giving the Roman ruins that still haunt Aragón: ruins of cities such as Caesar Augusta (Zaragoza), Bilbilis Augusta (Calatayud), Tarraco (about Uncastillo) etc., ruins of Roman villas like Fortunatus (Fraga), the La Malena (in Azuara, etc.)., construction debris such as bridges (Luco de Jiloca), prey (Almonacid de la Cuba or Muel) , etc. For its part, the Thematic Visits block we enter general and basic aspects of Roman culture and the Romanization: the military, roads, housing, entertainment, religion and death, water, etc. All the work of basic documentation, must take into account the educational level of students for whom it is directed the project, and the explanations are always accompanied by visual material, reconstructions, maps, charts and explanatory diagrams. The site is completed with educational activities such as webquests, multiple-choice tests, etc., With texts relating to Roman Aragon from literary sources and historical Greco-Roman, a section of useful links to other websites, a blog where you work and comment and a photoblog where you can view photographs of the Roman world in Aragon.

The development of the website started with the selection of documentation and materials to be used, and then we selected photographs, maps, reconstructions, diagrams, etc.. -With help from programs such as PhotoShop we created images. Once artwork and text were ready, they were given to the people responsible for the layout of the website. Materials should never come from other websites, as we preferred to develop our own materials rather then "cut and paste." Technically, the website is done in Microsoft FrontPage, our computer skills still have not allowed us to use more advanced programs such as the more attractive Flash, with animations, etc., So we recognize it is bit static and less attractive than other sites. Finally, the materials were posted on the official server provided by the Government of Aragon in the CATEDU (Centro Aragonés Technology Education).
