A software survival kit for Classics teachers Print E-mail

The advantages of ICT for teachers are becoming more accepted, as production of work-related documents becomes commonplace on a daily basis. However, new systems continue to emerge relentlessly and we have to keep choosing what is best for us in this ever-shifting sand. Sometimes, we make judgements about what we may require before setting out on a journey (ex ante) and sometimes we do this along the way (in itinere). In the case of using software, it can become possible to do this at any stage. In this manual we try to show what approaches may be available and this chapter is given over to consideration of this process in some detail. It is our contention that each teacher should acquire his or her own set of ICT essentials, including knowledge of different software and approaches: a Classics teacher must know about Classics-specific software, as well as about software which has a more open nature, suited for general use.

In the following summary, we have listed some software titles which might be of interest to Classics teachers, under two headings, Classics-specific and General Use.
