OverviewThis lesson activity is spread out over several lessons. At the end of the lesson activity each student will have gained insight in the Latin text of the duel between the Horatii and the Curiatii, in the area of substance, grammar and translation and each student will have cooperated in a creative manner to making this story come alive in the form of a comic strip.
Together with the students the teacher will read the story of the “Horatii and the Curiatii” in Latin and they will translate it into Dutch.
How can we make this into a comic strip?
Which scenes will have to be included?
All students will bring their Playmobil figures to school. Of course they will also bring the associated attributes, such as helmets, swords, lances, shields, axes…
The student will also, per group, bring a small photo-camera.
The students, divided into groups, will setup the scenes.
Then the students will take pictures of the scenes against a green screen (small, green piece of cardboard).
Using the program ‘Comic Life’, all images are arranged in line, with the necessary backgrounds and text balloons. Via the following link you will be directed to the website where you can download the program: http://plasq.com/apps/comiclife/macwin/. It has a 30 days free trial.
